The Pyramids at Giza, Egypt  were built between 2600 and 2500 BC . In 200 BC , they were considered as one of  the seven  Wonders of  the World and are the only ancient monuments that survive till date. They were built as burial monuments for the rulers of Egypt.

There are three Pyramids at Ghiza - the Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops), Pyramid of  Khafre and Pyramid of  Menkaure and the Great Sphinx. The Great Pyramid of Cheops is the largest pyramid.  The pyramid of Khafre is the best preserved structure, and retains part of  its original limestone casing.  There are also a number of smaller pyramids in this complex.

The entire complex was built over a period of 400 years. More than 5 million limestone blocks were used for the construction of the pyramids. The blocks were transported to their designated position using timber sleds.
